Crepeteria

Today we shall interview the writer of http://anotherpunefoodblog.blogspot.com, and find out about the latest snack joint he visited, revealing what he ate there, what he liked or didn't like and also the over all experience.

Where did you go?
Crepeteria.

So, pune foodie, where exactly is Crepeteria?
Crepeteria is a snack joint in lane #5, Koregoan Park Pune.  It is across two levels, and even has a nice small sit out.

Why did you go there?
I basically ventured here with a couple of friends and my wife. My friend likes to hang out there, and also likes their coffee. It was early evening, around 6pm and I had just had some wonderful doughnuts at Donut Magic, and I could eat some more.

How did you find the seating arrangement? We know this is especially important to you as you are almost 6 ft tall!
Are you psychic? Because I did have a bit of trouble sitting that day. Yes, it can be quite difficult for me sometimes. That day we sat on the upper level. The layout consisted of a table for four with four individual chairs. The table and chairs were made of cane. The part that was difficult for me was that the chair was rather low, therefore, the angle made by my legs with the floor, my knees basically, did make me a bit uncomfortable, but my friends, who are shorter than me by the way, were quite comfortable.
One thing I really liked was at the table there was a  little sign that read "Haath dhoe kya"(Did you wash your hands?) and next to the sign was a bottle of Lifebuoy hand sanitizer. This was the first time I had seen something like that and thought it was really neat.

Alright, let's get straight to the meaty part. What did you snack on that day and hows was it? Spare no details, please.
Alright without further ado, I will get straight to it. My wife and I shared a a Chicken Tikka crepe, Smoked Chicken sub and all of us had the WOW fries.

A sub? Why did you have the sub? This was Crepeteria, I thought you would try only the Crepes!
Well we did have a crepe but it is also important to know and try something else that is on offer, and how it compares to their main items(s).
Anyway, the fries were served in quite an innovative way. It was a plate of fries covered with mayonnaise, onions, spring onions and tomatoes. The overall taste was alright, nothing to rave about, however the presentation and idea was pretty neat.
The smoked chicken sub was not bad. It was a long wheat bread bun filled tomatoes, lettuce, chicken pieces with the smoked flavour and a sauce. The taste was a little blandish so if you like continental food, you would definitely like this.

The Chicken Tikka Crepe however was a disaster!

A disaster?!
Yes, a disaster. The chicken tikka was REALLY spicy. Well my tolerance level for spicy is a bit on the lower side because I was born and lived outside of India for thirteen years. But, even if the spicy level was ok by Indian standards, the Pudina(mint) chutney inside was WAY too strong. Even my wife who is a big fan of Pudina chuteys, did not like it.

Also, the iced tea that she ordered was a little on the diluted side and we had to send it back to make it a little stronger. However, my friend assured me that this was not usually the case and it was always better than that.

So, all in all the place was kind of okay.

It is almost time to wrap up so, one last question. How much was it and will you go back there?
That was two questions actually
(laughs).
Chicken Tikka crepe : Rs 89.
Smoked Chicken sub : Rs. 109.
Wow Fries :  Rs. 69.
Peach Iced tea : Rs. 59.
Diet coke : Rs. 40.

I did make a note of what I want to try there next time. The fries that have the 'Elvis sauce' if I remember it correctly, Crazy fries or something like that. There is still much to try from their menu, therefore I will go back there and try some more of the crepes. Will update you then.
Catchya later. ;)

Timings : 8 AM to 11 PM.

Donut Magic

My first post. YEAH!.
Just yesterday I had a craving for a chocolate covered doughnut. This happened while watching a movie. Funny how some external factors can influence you so easily.
So, today while riding down lane #7 in Koregaon park, we saw a little doughnut shop called "Donut Magic". My wife was sitting behind me on the Honda Activa and happened to notice this place as we rode past it. This joint had been recommended by many to my wife.
Well then, there was nothing else left for us to do other than go in and have some doughnuts.

Location:
Lane #7 Koregaon park, off North main road. A few metres down the lane, moving away from Naturals ice-cream, on the left hand side of the road.
The place is not very large with a counter at one end and small tables and chairs for sitting down and having doughnuts.
I went in not expecting too much, as I had until now, not had any doughnuts in Pune city, which were anywhere comparable to what I had eaten during my stint in UK.
I was pleasantly surprised.
There was a decent variety of doughnuts there, which is very pleasing to see, because it gives you a sense of the seriousness that the proprietors have about what they want to offer, and that they have spent time in being creative about their offerings. Some would just put a few options, seemingly random, and then have many other alternatives snack, such as sandwiches, rolls, as a fall back. Not here! The choice of doughnut flavours available are not bad, not terribly or overwhelmingly large, or even extremely creative, but enough for you to have a good look and then think a little, and also not feel like, "I have to have pick between these two, because the choice is so limited".

What we ordered:
We ordered 3 doughnuts namely, Chocolate Cream Doughnut, Cinnamon doughnut and the plain Glazed doughnut.

The Chocolate Cream doughnut was covered with a layer of chocolate on top, on the outside and a bit of creamy chocolate stuffed into the doughnut. A bite into the chocolate makes the inner chocolate cream ooze out into your mouth, YUMMY!

The plain glazed doughnut was also very nice and we used it to mop up the chocolate cream left in our plates from the first doughnut.

For a change of taste, we tried the Cinnamon doughnut; basically a doughnut which is a plain glazed doughnut with sprinkles of cinnamon powder all around. If you like cinnamon, you will like this variant. The doughnut has just the right amounts of cinnamon to not be overwhelmingly strong or too less to seem flavour-less and plain. It has a unique and interesting taste, and if you like to try new flavours, you should definitely try this one.

All the doughnuts were amazingly soft, fresh and served nice and warm, adding to the overall taste and feel while eating. Never have I had any kind of bread or bread-like snack which felt and textured like these doughnuts.

Also served at this outlet are simple bread sandwiches, veg. and chicken puffs, chocolate brownies, a tub of walnut cake and a few other small snacks.

Pricing:
Very reasonably priced. Thank god for small mercies. It really annoys me to no end when little concept shops and eateries charge sky high prices and then serve you tiny portions of food.
Glazed doughnut  : Rs. 15

Cinnamon doughnut : Rs. 15
Chocolate Cream doughnut : Rs 30
Small bottle of water (Kinley): Rs. 10 (very tasty :P)

Other outlets of this chain are also present in S.G.S Kakade Mall, Gold Adlabs and Wanowrie.

(I like it when small joints have their own websites. Shows that they think big and have a vision beyond their localised areas. At least in my opinion.)

Let me know how you like this place.

Another Pune food blog.

So, another Pune food blog is born.
Why would I add another food blog, when pune.burrp.com already exists and passes out certifications, and Karen Anand from Pune Times of the Times of India publications has a weekly column in Pune city? Well, the short answer is because I have always wanted to, and have quite a bit of direct and indirect encouragement from my family and friends.

It seems that most of my friends ask me for places to go out to out eat and in 90% cases end up liking it. So, I thought, "Why not have a blog?".
I will give it a sincere attempt for 2 years and then review how things went.
I also plan to make my blog a little different from the professionals, a little personal, and cover not only the starred restaurants and hotel, but even the street side stalls and push carts.
I don't have a decided format just yet, but I will evolve it across the next few months.
So time for me to jump into the crowd...Geronimo!
